There are a variety of pumps available in the market, but it is vital to choose what is best according to your requirement. One can make sure they are investing in the right fuel dispensing equipment by asking three questions. Yes! Only three questions can decide it for you. So, let’s see what are these three important questions?

  • Where is the fuel storage tank?
  • How fast you want to refuel vehicles?
  • How accurately you want to measure the fuel?

These seemingly normal and basic questions are very crucial when answered.

Where Is The Tank?

The placement of the tank matter a lot in the fuel management system. For instance, if you have a tank below ground then obviously a pump with high suction capability is required. The pump should be able to lift the fuel even when the tank is empty. A slightly less suction pump would do for the tank which is above ground. However, the installation needed to be carried out with care against leakage.

The pump that you have settled for is not going to work properly until it is connected correctly to the tank. Bore pipe and placement of pumps along with the tank location, all add up to the efficient working.

Speed Of Fuel Dispensing Equipment

We are sure you would want to refuel the vehicles as fast as possible. No one wants a bottleneck at the fuel station. However, you do not want your fuel pump to dispense too quickly as it can create excessive frothing. The frothing can shut the vehicle fuel tank’s nozzle off prematurely.

The fast dispensing will force the driver to wait repeatedly for the frothing to settle down in order to top up the tank. This will slow down the refueling process.

How Accuracy Matters In Fuel Management System

Higher accuracy pumps are a little costly, but you can quickly recover the cost if you are using a significant quantity of fuel. Lower accuracy pumps are ideal for the small fleets. Mostly fuel pumps have two basic types of a meter; flow meters, and piston meters.

Flow meters: these are also known as nutating disc meters. Delivery speed and fuel type have certain effects on the accuracy, and when the tanks are topped up to the brim, the accuracy will further wander out.

Piston meters: they are also known as positive displacement meters. The average accuracy remains the same even at the varying delivery speeds.

These are the most basic but surely the critical questions to consider whenever you are investing in a fuel pump.
